Najran
Established by the Agency of Antiquities and Museums at the Ministry of Knowledge, in 1403 AH / 1983 CE, and inaugurated in 1416 AH / 1995 CE, Najran Museum of Archaeology and Folk Heritage is located in a site linked to Najran’s ancient history, adjacent to the Al-Ukhdud archaeological site on its western side.
The museum contains several artifacts and folk heritage tools from all the villages and settlements (Hijar) of Najran, with a brief explanation and a simplified historical background for each exhibited type, enabling the visitor to experience the details of ancient life in Najran and learn about its lifestyles throughout the ages.
The museum assembles several inscribed tombstones brought from nearby Islamic sites, such as the Suqam Forest Cemetery, about one kilometer east of Al-Ukhdud. Among them are two dated tombstones highlighting an aspect of Najran’s ancient history; the first is dated Rajab 542 AH, and the second is dated 20 Shawwal 592 AH, belonging to a person named "Jami' bin Ali."
This museum stands as a pivotal gateway to the region's antiquities and heritage; therefore, attracting many visitors from the local population, as well as tourists, historians, and learners from abroad. It introduces them to Najran's history and diversity, taking them on a journey through time to show them the depth and authenticity of the place.
