Aris Well (The Ring Well)

A Historical Landmark in the Quba Mosque Courtyard

Madinah

: Aris Well, famously known as the Ring Well, is a historical landmark located west of the Quba Mosque. Its story is linked to the Prophet's (PBUH) ring falling into it from the hand of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). Today, it is part of the mosque's expansion.

Aris Well, known as the Ring Well, is situated west of the Quba Mosque. It is one of the sites associated with the historical memory of Madinah and with the lives of the Companions, particularly the Rightly Guided Caliphs.

It was named after a Jewish man named Aris, which means the farmer.

It was named the Ring Well after the Prophet's (PBUH) ring fell into it from the hand of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) in the sixth year of his caliphate.

After the death of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), this ring was with Caliph Abu Bakr during his caliphate, and likewise with Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab during his caliphate. Upon the accession of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to the caliphate, ownership passed to him.

Aris Well was incorporated into the latest expansion of the Quba Mosque, where it was covered by the western outer courtyard, while its distinctive historical significance was preserved.
