Al-Jumu'ah Mosque

A Witness to the First Friday Prayer After the Hijrah

Madinah

Al-Jumu'ah Mosque is one of the historical landmarks in Madinah. It is where the Prophet (PBUH) performed the first Friday prayer after the Hijrah. The mosque has been rebuilt in a new architectural style while preserving its historical status.

Al-Jumu'ah Mosque is located north of Quba Mosque, less than one kilometre away. It is a landmark associated with a bright chapter of the Prophetic biography. It gained this name because it was the location of the Prophet’s (PBUH) first Friday prayer after his arrival in Madinah.

Its structure has undergone renovation on more than one occasion. Prior to its recent expansion, it was situated on a small hill and occupied an area of less than 40 square meters. It was characterized by a single dome constructed of red brick.

It was recently rebuilt by the Ministry of Endowments to present a renewed architectural form and to preserve its historical significance within the collective memory of Madinah.
