Jawatha Park and its Historic Mosque

A Journey Between Nature and Heritage

Eastern

Jawatha Park combines natural beauty with historical ruins. It houses the second mosque where Friday prayers were held after the Prophet’s Mosque, reflecting the site's historical and heritage significance.

Jawatha Park is situated near Al-Kilabiyah village, approximately 18 km from Hofuf City. It is regarded as a significant site within Al-Ahsa Governorate, as it brings together a remarkable natural landscape and well-preserved archaeological ruins. Here, visitors may engage with a landscape that harmoniously combines natural scenery and archaeological remains, offering a distinctive setting through which to explore an important dimension of Al-Ahsa’s ancient history.

This park was established over the ruins of Jawatha City, known for its historical importance before the advent of Islam. Its role emerged early, since the beginnings of the Islamic call, by virtue of its people’s early conversion to Islam. Furthermore, its mosque is regarded as the second mosque in Islam in which Friday prayers were held after the Prophet’s Mosque, thereby conferring upon it a distinctive status that continues to endure to the present day.

Archaeologists were able to discover the ruins of the congregational mosque (Al-Masjid al-Jami) of Jawatha City in 1412 AH / 1991 AD, near the main entrance of the park. This has established the park as one of Al-Ahsa Governorate’s open cultural landmarks, where the tranquility of nature converges with the spirit of exploration, enabling visitors to view the mosque’s ruins and appreciate its impressive structural formations.
