Al-Mustarah Mosque

A Historical Legacy from the Prophetic Era

Madinah

Al-Mustarah Mosque is a historical landmark in Madinah. Its name is associated with accounts that the Prophet (PBUH) rested at the site on his return from the Battle of Uhud. Renovated during the Saudi era, it is distinguished by its elegant dome and minaret.

Al-Mustarah Mosque lies approximately 2.5 kilometres northwest of the Prophet’s Mosque, on Sayyid al-Shuhada Street, and its proximity to the Prophet’s Mosque makes it readily accessible to visitors to the city.

The designation Al-Mustarah (“the place of rest”) derives from narrations stating that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sat there to rest during his return from the Battle of Uhud. This association lends the mosque particular historical value, enabling visitors to sense the presence of the Prophetic biography within its surroundings.

It is an ancient mosque, originally built during the era of the Prophet (PBUH). It was later renovated and expanded during the reign of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz (may Allah have mercy on him). In this way, the mosque combines the authenticity of the past with the care of the present, remaining a witness to enduring dedication to the service of mosques across the ages.

It was constructed in a rectangular shape, featuring a beautiful dome and minaret. The mosque covers an area of approximately 500 square meters. Its serene design provides a sense of tranquility, while the dome and minaret add a touch that reflects the beauty of Islamic architecture.
