Wadi Najran Dam

The Kingdom's Largest Dam

Najran

Wadi Najran Dam, established by the order of King Khalid (may Allah have mercy on him), is considered the largest dam in the Kingdom in terms of size and with a storage capacity of approximately 86 million cubic meters. It contributes to recharging groundwater, supporting agriculture, and protecting Najran City from flash floods.

During a historic visit by King Khalid (may Allah have mercy on him) to Najran, he ordered the construction of Wadi Najran Dam (Al-Madiq Dam), located northwest of Najran on its famous valley.

The construction commenced in 1400 AH / 1980 AD, and took less than two years.

With its magnificent structures, engineering design, and the mountain-carved tunnels leading to it, it has become one of the most important landmarks in the Najran region.

This dam is deemed to be the largest in the Kingdom in terms of size and storage capacity, standing at a height of 73 m and a length of 274 m, with a storage capacity estimated at 86 million cubic meters.

This embodies the great effort exerted in its construction and its vital role in the life of the region.

It is a concrete arch dam, implemented to support groundwater sources and enhance agricultural development in the Najran Region.

Alongside its protective role in safeguarding Najran City from the hazards of flash floods.

The dam is equipped with four openings (gates) to control the stored rainwater when necessary, and three tunnels for operation, maintenance, and monitoring works.

It has an integrated system that ensures its efficiency and sustainable operation throughout the years.
