Al-Arfa
Makkah
The Rock Album of Taif's Civilization
Makkah
Al-Arfa is one of the prominent archaeological sites in the north of Taif Governorate, located about 35 kilometers east of Taif International Airport. It can be viewed from Taif–Riyadh Road, approximately two kilometers east after passing Taif International Airport.
On the rocks of Al-Ahdab Mountain, one may find an incredible array of rock art that dates back to ancient times. The artwork depicts scenes of humans and animals. These artifacts provide abundant visual evidence of human presence and activity in the Arabian Peninsula.
The site also includes the ruins of a palace built in the Abbasid style, reflecting the influence of early Islamic architecture on Taif. There is also a stone fortress likely constructed in the late 13th century AH, linking Al-Arfa to a long history spanning from pre-Islamic eras to the modern period.
Due to vandalism and destruction, a dire need for effective protection and restoration efforts to preserve what remains of this rich legacy arises.
