The Range That Epitomizes the Earth's Strength and Human Resolve
Riyadh
The Tuwaiq Mountains form a sedimentary escarpment extending from north to south across the center of the Kingdom. They are among the most distinct topographical features in the Arabian Peninsula, visible even from outer space. Their width reaches approximately fifty kilometers, and their peak at "Faridat Al-Shizhiyyah" northwest of Al-Hariq reaches 1,196 meters above sea level.
Tuwaiq was named as the diminutive form of the word "Ṭawq" (collar/ring) due to its curved shape. Its geological history dates back about 500 million years, when the region was covered by a marine body, leaving its marks in the limestone and coral fossils scattered across its surface.
The Tuwaiq Mountains are known for serving as a passage for several important valleys (wadis), including Wadi Hanifah to the east, and Wadi Nisah and Liha to the west.
The "Edge of the World" area is considered one of its most prominent tourist attractions, providing panoramic views of the desert.
The Tuwaiq Mountains embrace various natural features such as caves, rock formations, hanging valleys, and natural water pools.
