The Hot Springs of Al-Layth
Makkah
The Warmth of Nature and the Healing of Bodies
Makkah
The hot springs are located in the Al-Safra area, approximately 90 km northeast of Al-Layth, and about 25 km from the town of Ghumayqah, along the southern edge of Wadi Al-Layth. They consist of two main adjacent springs, separated by a distance of about 10 meters, in addition to several smaller springs scattered in the valley's vicinity.
These springs are characterized by high water temperatures (up to 70 degrees Celsius) and elevated salinity, with a total dissolved solids concentration of about 2,092 parts per million. This renders the water unsuitable for drinking, yet it is traditionally utilized for therapeutic purposes, and visitors frequent the site to bathe in its hot waters.
The springs’ area experiences environmental and human activity due to the flow of water through Wadi Al-Layth and its mixing with surface water. The presence of these springs has helped stimulate urbanization in nearby areas.
