Al-Hudaybiyah

The Scene of the Pledge of Ridwan and the Treaty of Al-Hudaybiyah

Makkah

It is a historical location about 22 km from Makkah, known today as Al-Shumaysi. It was named after a well near the Tree Mosque, where the Companions pledged allegiance to the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) in the Pledge of Ridwan during the year of Al-Hudaybiyah. It is also the site of the boundary markers (A'lam) of the Sacred Sanctuary (Haram) from the western side.

Al-Hudaybiyah (Al-Shumaysi) is located approximately 22 km west of Makkah, just before the midpoint of the old Makkah–Jeddah Road. Its name is linked to the Well of Al-Hudaybiyah near the Tree Mosque, where the Pledge of Ridwan took place, which Allah praised in His saying, the meaning of which is: ﴾Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they gave allegiance to you under the tree... ﴿ (Al-Fath: 18). Within its bounds, the Treaty of Al-Hudaybiyah (6 AH/628 AD) was concluded, which paved the way for a new phase in the spread of Islam.

The location includes an Ottoman Sabil (public water source) which was renovated during the reign of King Abdulaziz in 1362 AH/1943 AD. The boundary markers of the Sacred Sanctuary are also visible here from the western direction, solidifying its religious and historical status on the map of Makkah and the Holy Sites.
